Military ID (A work in progress.)

Found nearly a decade ago, the question is, was D-Day, the 6 June 1944 WWII invasion of Normandy, a part of this veteran's life, or is it simply the owner's name? But seeing it, what was the first thing that came to your mind? For comparison, in 2025, about 1.33 million people served in our military, making up approximately 0.4% of the population. In 1968, during the height of the Vietnam War, that number was 3.5 million, or roughly 2% of the US population, and in 1945, at the end of WWII, over 12 million were serving, constituting about 9% of the population.
