“I gave it a lot of thought, deciding on ‘MCPI.’ They’re the initials for Marine Corps Parris Island,” so claimed Don Spires, who, along with wife Margaret, are the owners of their beautiful 1998 Corvette displayed at a Columbus, Ohio car show. “The car,” Mr. Spires shared with me, “has won over 300 trophies, including Grand Champion.” The Spires are members of the "Free Range Chicken Corvette Club," he the "Rooster," she the "Little Hen." Mr. Spires served twice with the Marines, earning two Honorable Discharges. He would earn the rank of corporal when serving in Vietnam with the 1st Marines Headquarters.
