From somewhere in the background, the term “knuckle-dragger” was volunteered. Those words were aimed at Thomas “Bear” Anderson, after my question, "What did you do during your years in the Navy?" From 1992-1994, Bear had been a machinist's mate, who labored (as a knuckle-dragger) in the Reactor Division aboard CVN-72, the USS Abraham Lincoln. Among his other interests, today he leads the Texas VFW Motorcycle Group, thus his license plate. Their purpose is to promote a positive image of the VFW, encourage motorcycling safety programs and motorcycling in general. Of more significance, he also serves as treasurer of Operation Daily Battle, an organization that focuses on veterans' suicide prevention.
