In Ohio history, this is something of a big deal: at the time called the "Great Raid." This monument marks the location of the last engagement by the flamboyant Confederate John Morgan of Morgan's Raiders fame, at Sharp’s Farm in Carroll County. The Morgan Raid was meant to create confusion in the northern states, pulling resources from the Civil War to the south. Morgan took it upon himself to travel into Ohio, despite his orders to remain in Kentucky. To put things in perspective, his raid coincided with the Vicksburg and Gettysburg campaigns. He was captured a short distance away.
