David's artistry is on display near Sugarcreek. The ship displayed here, the Huntress of Athens, was known as a "trireme," in which 170 oarsmen worked an oar each on the ship's 3 levels. The top level of oarsmen were called Thranites, with 31 oars per side; the middle level known as Zygites, with 27 oarsmen per side; and the lower level was called Thalamites, also with 27 men per side. The work of his grandfather, Ernest Warther, can be seen in nearby Dover.
